It’s time for a tag! I was tagged by Naemi @A Bookowl’s Corner to do the Meet the Book Blogger Tag a while ago and now I’m finally getting around to it. I’ve gotten quite a few new followers lately, so a tag with a bunch of personal stuff about me seemed appropriate. Thank you to Naemi for tagging me and to everyone else: Go follow her immediately!

Who is your all-time favorite book character?

That is so hard to answer! As the person I am, I need to follow the rules and only pick one character, of course. And that character is Vasya from the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden. I just couldn’t pick anyone else because this is the best execution of the “strong female character” I’ve ever seen, and I doubt anything is ever going to top it. I love Vasya and aspire to have her courage every day.

I need to mention two other characters, though (just to show who was in the running), and those are Katniss from The Hunger Games and Willem from A Little Life. Katniss for being the first introverted heroine I ever read about, and Willem for being the best human being in any book.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which book would you take with you? (Survival books do not count)

Let’s just say I wouldn’t have survived on a desert island even if I’d brought survival books, so I would take a book that I could just enjoy in my final moments. It would probably be Carry On by Rainbow Rowell because I’m sure the humor and lightheartedness in there would keep my spirits high. It’s also very reminiscent of Harry Potter, so it’s almost two books in one, and that’s how I would cheat.

What’s your most unpopular book opinion?

Lol, unpopular opinions are all I have. However, I feel like most people would answer this with a popular book they didn’t like… So I’m not going to do that, of course. Instead, I’m going to talk about my love for a book that gets a lot of hate: Eragon by Christopher Paolini. When I was younger I read that book over and over again, like, whenever I spotted it on my library’s shelves, it was going home with me. I couldn’t get enough! Didn’t care much for the rest of the series, so Eragon works like a standalone for me, and I really should do a reread again soon.

What’s your weirdest bookish habit?

Since joining the bookish community, I’ve become aware of this very weird thing that I do. It seems like most readers prefer to stop a reading session at the end of a chapter because, yes, that’s just a natural break in the story. I can’t do that, though. I have to read those first one or two pages of the next chapter so that I stop on a page full of text. You get what I mean? Like, the page with the chapter number/title is an easy page to read because there is less text on it… so I might as well read that before I stop.
If you want to go and unfollow now, I totally get it. But I have always done this and never thought of it as weird. It was just something child-me found perfectly reasonable, and now I can’t stop.

What character would you bring to a family event as your fake partner?

A really hard question. It would need to be someone who has great social skills because they’re going to get a lot of attention. I think Gansey from The Raven Cycle could be a good choice. I’m definitely confident he won’t make a scene, and everyone in my family would probably love him by the end of the day because he’s the embodiment of the “well behaved young man”.

What made you decide to start a book blog?

The same reason so many others decide to start book blogging: I had no one to talk to about the books I read. However, I didn’t actually intend to talk to people online either by starting this blog, which, yes, that sounds weird. I hadn’t expected anyone to actually follow my blog. I just wanted a place where I could write my thoughts down, but I needed it to be public, otherwise, I would never actually do any writing. No one was going to find my site anyway. Well… That didn’t turn out exactly how I’d planned it, but I’m grateful because it turns out it’s actually a lot more fun talking to other people than to myself. Who knew!

What about reading and books do you love the most?

Without needing to think about it, the escapism. My life outside of blogging and reading isn’t all that great with me having social anxiety and very complicated relationships with family members, so reading is my break. It just mutes all the worries for a little while.

What is your field of study/desired profession/current profession?

So I studied International Business Communication with European Studies and English (a mouthful) with zero plans about what I wanted to do with it. I guess at some point my “desired profession” was to work for the EU somehow, but I also knew that was never going to happen. I just needed an answer for those occasions when someone (read: grandparents) would ask what job I could get with that education. I’m not the type of person who could ever work 60 hours a week.

So my current profession is mail carrier, which is honestly the most perfect job I could get. No, I don’t use my education all that much except for the fact that good communication skills are always an advantage. I definitely don’t have any regrets about taking an education because I went through some important personal growth during those three years where I actually learned what it was like to be confident in myself. Wild experience, I tell ya!

What are some book recommendations that became your favorites/obsessions?

It’s hard for me to just mention one person who was behind a recommendation that became my favorite. I usually have to have several people recommend it before I read it. However, I know that Regan from PeruseProject on BookTube made me aware of quite a few series that later became my favorites: Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden, Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness, and The Queen’s Thief by Megan Whalen Turner just to name a few.

What is the book you shove down everyone’s throat?

Well, there might be a few candidates, and since I’ve mentioned Winternight Trilogy twice in this post already, you might have guessed that was one of them. It’s also very hard for me not to mention Natasha Pulley or her Watchmaker of Filigree Street in every post, but I really try! Although, I wouldn’t say I “shove them down everyone’s throat”. I just mention them a lot. That’s not the same (right?).
