“Thick evening fog clung to the forlorn banks of Ward’s Island, turning it into a ghost of itself.”
First line in Before the Devil Breaks You by Libba Bray

I’m kicking Wyrd and Wonder off with a tag created a long time ago on BookTube by NEHOMAS2, and it is about inviting book characters to a dinner party based on ten prompts. How can that not end in disaster?
It’s not specifically a Fantasy tag, but I’m making it that by only picking Fantasy characters obviously. I’m picking 11 guests so here we go.
1. One character who can cook/likes to cook
I’m picking Rock from the Stormlight Archive, not only because I want some of that Bridge 4 stew, but also because I know he would have some great stories to tell.
2. One character who has money to fund the party
Rhy Maresh from Shades of Magic by V. E. Schwab is a prince so I’m pretty sure he would have the means to throw a very lavish party. He’s also someone who would love to attend such a party, so I’m sure he would keep spirits high.
3. One character who might cause a scene
A lot of candidates for this one, but I went with Wayne from second era Mistborn. Basically, his entire character is about causing scenes (and his love of hats), so I would expect nothing less by inviting him.
4. One character who is funny/amusing
Another Stormlight character as I gotta pick Wit. It seems like it’s almost impossible for him to say something that isn’t funny, and I’d be very excited to see him interact with some of the other guests.
5. One character who is super social/popular
I’m going with Evie from The Diviners by Libba Bray, a character that isn’t my favorite, maybe because she is so super social. She loves parties and she would make sure that there would never be a dull moment (or a quite one).
6. One villain
This was actually unbelievably hard! How to pick a villain who wouldn’t want to kill everyone? So I went with Captain Hook from Peter Pan. I’m sure he’s a misunderstood villain who’s actually a good guy on the inside, and I want to hear his story. Even if that’s not the case, I feel like the party is safe as long as I don’t invite Peter Pan.
7. One couple β doesnβt have to be romantic
I’m picking Chava and Ahmad from The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker. They’re both quite solitary people, but they do seem to blossom around other people, and I really think they would find this party very interesting.
8. One hero/heroine
Circe from Circe by Madeline Miller. This girl needs a party since she haven’t attended a proper one for quite a while. She might also perform a magic trick as entertainment.
9. One underappreciated character
There are different ways to interpret this prompt so I’ve picked an underappreciated character in an underappreciated book: Gabriel from Half Bad by Sally Green. He is sweet and loyal and very clearly isn’t valued enough by the other characters in that book. He also has an ability that can only be categorized as a great party trick.
10. One character of your own choosing
The Fool from the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. I know the world would probably implode when the Fool meets Wit, but if you know both characters, just try and imagine that encounter. I’m still not sure whether they would love or hate each other, but I know it would be hilarious to find out.

Since I wasn’t tagged myself but just did this unprompted, I’m not tagging anyone else but feel free to do it if you fancy. Maybe you can pick a different theme. But what do you think of this dinner party? Who will kill each other and who will become best friends? Let me know and otherwise, happy Wyrd and Wonder!

Oh, boy, this is such a great tag! I love the idea and the responses are practically guaranteed to be entertaining!

I would totally come to this party! Especially since the Fool is attending – how could I miss the chance to meet him in person? π Although I get the slight feeling that he, Rhy, and Wayne would be make a bromancey threesome that would annoy the hell out of Circe and put everyone in danger of being turned into pigs… So maybe I should rethink my attendance? π€

Oh my god, I hadn’t even thought of that bromance combination, but it sounds awesome! π€© I had imagined that Rhy and Evie would be besties, but I guess Rhy works with a lot of people. About Circe, I guess she just needs to be distracted by someone else to not be too annoyed with anyone. She might relate to the couple from The Golem and the Jinni. So I think the party should be safe to attend so you can meet the Fool π

I mean, Rhy and Evie would probably get along as well, but they both love being at the center of attention so much that I’m not sure they’d even have time for each other π And I haven’t read The Golem and the Jinni, but if you think the couple will keep Circe occupied, I’m definitely coming to meet the Fool!

You have a point there about Rhy and Evie π

Great Tag! I’m so gonna have to try this. Although it’s going to be hard because you already picked all the good Cosmere characters. Oh well. I like a challenge π
Thanks for posting!

Cosmere characters just fit these prompts so well. I was tempted to pick even more but felt I had to restrain myself π I’m looking forward to seeing who you pick!
